A Great Moment in City History

Each of the last couple of seasons, like me I’m sure all of you thought this year we will break the top 6. I honestly believe we are in process of something bigger than that and top 4 is possible. In my opinion last year we had the players (especially going forward) to break top 6 but we didn’t have the consistency to break into position a club of our stature belongs.

As some of our Bluewatch younger members dream of what it’s like to win a trophy let’s take you back to our first league triumph.

Picture the scene April 1937:

Sunday headlines read

MANCHESTER CITY CORONATION CHAMPIONS

Manchester City made sure of their first ever championship by beating Sheffield Wednesday 4-1. In doing so they sent Wednesday closer to the brink of 2nd Division football (this was Championship in old money).

The irony is that the other club from just outside Manchester; United, look to be accompanying Wednesday there as they lost to West Brom.

Billy Meredith wrote this report for Sunday paper:

“Manchester City realized a lifetime dream in winning the First Division Championship and they have been good value for it. After the first few minutes there was no doubt how this game would end for Wednesday did not play well until they were 3 goals down.
The City have done wonders this year and were last defeated in the league on Boxing Day.

The league winning goals were scored by Brook (2), Tilson and Doherty. 3 of them came in the space of 13 minutes and Doherty was instrumental in each of the 3.”

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

I am now 37 years of age and have been a blue for every one of those years. For 37 years like all City fans of my age, we have been ridiculed and persecuted and laughed at by the football world. We have been registered as the poor club and poor relation of the worlds “biggest” club Manchester United.

The only thing we (MCFC) have been praised for in my time is the loyalty and faith of the supporters that has been and is the foundation of this fantastic football club. For those 37 years I have seen Man Yoo purchase the best players from the British domestic league’s for three decades. Bullying other clubs and poaching young talent like Lee Sharp(Torquay) Ryan Giggs(Man City) and paying huge transfer fees for players like Roy Keane, Paul Ince, Bryan Robson, Gary Birtles, Wayne Rooney etc etc.

Despite their main fanzine “Red Issue” warning about the consequences of the Glazer purchase of Manchester United, Alex Ferguson called rebel supporters of FC United 'traitors' and said there was nothing to worry about for the future of their club. Blinded by a success of trophies and still paying extortionate prices for admission, the fans are continuing to follow their Pied Piper Sir Alex to their peril.

The warning signs are their for all to see except the reds whose heads are that much full of pride and pre-justice they fail to humble themselves to the fact that their club is on straw foundations. In 2008 Manchester United won the Premier League title as well as the European cup. They filled their stadium every game over 70,000 yet “STILL” added £49 million pond to their overall dept of £600 Million Pounds.

Now please tell me if I am wrong! I would say that would be a successful season so what the hell would they do if they had an average season?  Manchester United have just sold their jewel in their crown for £80 million pounds cash. To replace him they have bought a young lad from “Wigan” for £18 million and also Michael Owen on a free from the Geordies. If Manchester United were to replace Ronaldo and Tevez would you say these were the two transfers to do it??

I will guarantee you Manchester United will not spend half the money of the Ronaldo transfer money this season on players. The fact of the matter is they cannot afford to.

In the season 2012 the glaziers have to repay a lump sum of £150 million, in 2012 they have to repay a lump sum of £175 million.

Every year from now until 2012 they have to repay £60 million a year.

This year they have just managed to repay their £60 million on the back of the Ronaldo transfer. Lets see what they do in the year 2010 and 2011?

While all this is going on “Little ol Citeh” are blowing everyone out of the water In the transfer market and are now bullying the bullies of the G12 of the football world including Man Yoo. The press and fans of other clubs are calling it “The end of the game as we know it”, “An injustice to the world” etc etc. While Real Madrid buy every player on the planet worth over 7 noughts!

It just goes to show that mud sticks and no matter what we will always be known as Manchester City! Would we have it any other way!!! Ha Haaaa

It is so funny seeing United fans call us a club with no heart as we are buying our way to winning trophies and success!

“HOLD ON A MINUTE………BUYING OUR WAY TO SUCCESS?”

Do the maths my rag friends and you have outspent us by four fold in Fergies time in charge. So have Chelsea and Liverpool and even Arsenal.

Ruining football you say! Quite the opposite we are the biggest revolutionaries football has ever seen and we are coming to the table of so called big boys and smashing it to pieces.

“What goes around comes around”

Love,

Tommy Gunn

P.S.
My fellow blues, lets not become as big headed as those reds were. Its important to remember in times of joy.... our times of sorrow.

Dont forget Bradford away 1-1, Gillingham play off final, Stoke away relegation. Charlton at home promotion 5-1. etc etc

Tevez vows revenge on Alex Ferguson!

If the feud between striker Carlos Tevez and Manchester United wasn't hot enough already, Carlos Tevez has poured gasoline on the fire.

In an interview with the Mirror, Tevez stated his primary reason for leaving Uni£ed was in fact that Ferguson had "lied" to him.  The Argentinian striker who is rumored to be completing a deal with Uni£ed's rival, Manchester City by monday, stated that he desires to extract his revenge on the Salford club.

Tevez claimed on Saturday that Ferguson had lied to him and that the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov was the beginning of the end of his Uni£ed career.  Tevez stated:  "Before Berbatov arrived in Manchester, Ferguson told me, 'You will still be the starting striker, so be cool'. But he lied to me! That is why I know I will not return to United."

Alex Ferguson's mistake in bringing in a player whom many Uni£ed fans have dubbed "lazy" and dumping the fan favorite Tevez may prove to be a grave mistake for the Scotsman who is trying to re-build a squad already hurting from the loss of Christiano Ronaldo.

Manchester City are ready to cash in on the mistake by hopefully unveiling Tevez by next week.  Tevez stated his desire to get his revenge on Ferguson.

"What I want to do next season is score against Uni£ed. I promise I will not celebrate in front of the Uni£ed fans but I will shout in Ferguson's face.  You can be sure of that - and it will be one of the most beautiful things I have done in football."

Given those quotes, it can be a sure bet that Manchester City supporters are looking forward even more to the derby matches this season.

Don't hate the player! Hate the game!

When you are taken over by an Arab with more money than most small countries, I wouldn't expect to make many friends. From the moment it happened the comments were rolled out from everywhere (mainly rags) about how we had sold out to foreigners and with the amount of money we had we were going to ruin football. Well I say; tough!  It's our turn for success! We are sick of living in the shadows.  We are a big club and have been waiting for our chance to return to prominence for too long.

Football has change, thats the simple fact. Ever since the influx of Premier league T.V. Money, the sharks have been gradually circling since the true potential of what could be made from football was revealed. The 'foreign legion' began pouring into the sport, from Mohammed Al-Fayed at Fulham, right through to the Japanese consortium that took over Plymouth Argyle not two days ago. It is just the age we live and young fans that have just started to follow the game will fail to know different.

It is clear that some owners are here for money. Despite all the drama in Liverpool, it is clear that George Gillett and Tom Hicks are not at Liverpool for their love of The Kop and 'soccer'. Then you look at owners like Randy Lerner at Villa and Sheikh Mansour with us, these men have a genuine love of the game and this can be seen through their actions and interactions with fans. They are willing to listen, with Lerner even going as far as to interact with fans over forums, although I do pray that our Arab owners do not stumble onto Bluewatch as I am sure they will be shocked at some of the goings on (you know who you are.)

We are lucky. There is no doubt of that. We are arguably the richest club in the world. It is just typical City luck that in the summer we are intent on spending big and signing the cream of World football, and that Real Madrid are also on a mission to rebuild their Galacticos. Just out shining us and making us feel not so important.

We have all the tools in place to rule English football. People will say we 'bought' the title; so what. The only team I feel that can say they haven't bought the Premiership is Arsenal and even then they had signed Ljungberg, Viera, Bergkamp and, Overmars for sizeable fees.

The way football is now, you have to buy the League. You are never going to get teams like West Ham, Sunderland or Aston Villa challenging for a title off their own backs it just won't happen.

So for now lets just ride the wave. We are on the brink of something big, I can feel it and its all thanks to a couple of men from the Middle East. God I love City!!

All Change!

New website for Bluewatch and for City on the same day?  Coincidence or are we taking over? Bwahahaha!!

Seriously though, huge changes are afoot at City as have been well documented.  Never in my lifetime did I expect to see us buy the likes of Robinho or attempt to buy quality like Kaka and Eto’o

There is a tangible feeling of belief about the place that has been missing for far too long.  Exasperation has been replaced by expectation.  A real sense of this being, in a long line of new dawns, a genuine dawning of a new age at City permeates every pore of every Blue Blood.

Today we stand on the verge of great things to come, with new owners, new players and a manager who is certainly going to come under a great deal of pressure this season.

On to more pressing things though – namely Samuel Eto’o.  The classy Cameroon centre forward, already a hero in Manchester for embarrassing that other team is on the cusp of joining the growing ranks of quality our wonderful new owners have already acquired.

The sticking point is the loyalty payment Samuel believes he is entitled to from Barcelona.  This payment is said to be anything from £13-15 million and could potentially scupper our hopes of landing him.

And here is where the sea-change at City is evident.

The transfer has descended into quite a public slanging match between Samuel’s representative s and Barcelona.  Talk of Samuel demanding wages of over £300,00 a week are laughable – as Eto’o’s agent has stated “City have not made an offer to us yet”.

City have however, maintained a dignified silence throughout the whole deal.  It seems clear, lessons have been learnt from the Kaka saga and that can only be good for City as we march ever onwards and upwards.

Let's hope they don't 'bottle it!'
